Our History

Our Story:

It was once said, "Do not despise small beginnings," and we can testify to the truth of this statement. On October 1st, 2010 a long dream became a reality when LifeSong Inc., our non-profit 501c3, was incorporated. On Monday morning May 23rd, 2011, after seven months of dedication in taking the necessary steps to become operational. LifeSong began Community based Day Habilitation services out of our home office in Clifton Park. Services begun with an amazing team of five staff and eight participants venturing out to serve the community through local volunteer efforts. That was a satisfying and rewarding day. With great gratitude, we gained new friends and family.

Needless to say, one day led to another, one month led to the next and our LifeSong family grew steadily. Our home office certainly became cozy as we were bursting at the seams searching for an office space to call home. In February of 2012, we were so excited to move into our new office space in Plaza 8 off exit 8 on the Northway. It was here that we built out a staff office, a small conference room, and an art and music space. We also hired a Program Manager to oversee staff and Day Program activities. In no time at all our new space also became a very cozy environment as our team grew to twenty-two staff. So we contracted with Plaza 8 for additional adjacent space to build out and plans began.

In February 2013, we hired an Employment Manager to begin our Employment Department which seeks to support individuals in finding, securing and maintaining empolyment. This was a whole new avenue of service for LifeSong that took time to understand and develop. Now our Employment Department is in good stride and growing leaps and bounds. LifeSong's Employment Department continues to thrive and show great success in job placement and retention.

In September of 2013 we were finally able to move into our additional space which became our main office space for staff. It was here that our Program Manager was able to have his own office, The Clinical Office moved into their own space, and there was sufficient room to house all of our staff meetings. In an effort to provide individuals we serve with a whole new avenue of experience and one of a kind opportunity, we built out a professional recording studio. Having a very talented and large percent of musical staff, we provide vocal and instrumental lessons as well as recording opportunities to enhance personal expression and creativity. Our LifeSong Singers have produced their first Christmas CD as well as performing the National Anthem at community events like the Valley Cats games and our very own 5k run The Daffodil Dash.

This year we celebrated our Fifth anniversary and we couldn't be more blessed and thankful for the LifeSong team, staff and individuals served. In a short time we have grown from a team of five to forty and from eight Day Program participants to now about one hundred and a new Employment Department of about fifty. We talk about numbers as it relates to growth which can represent a certain element of success, but at our core, it's all about people. Our Mission is to Love, Enhance, Equip and Inspire lives as we aspire to provide quality, genuine support and a variety of experiences that better people's lives and facilitate independence. With that we have witnessed and will continue to cultivate success.

As 2017 is quickly approaching, we will be considering additional office space for our staff as we are again experiencing that cozy feeling. We reflect with fond memories on our trips and events that we have been able to do with our participants in the midst of countless hours of service through volunteering efforts and skill building. We look forward each year to the traditions that we have begun through trips to NY City and Boston, camping, The Daffodil Dash, our Thanksgiving Feast and our Christmas Extravaganza. Looking Back the steps of our history are just so amazing to us, as a team, we accomplished so much in a relatively short amount of time. Looking ahead, we are excited for what the future holds and to see how the history of so many will be improved by our services. We are thankful for small beginnings.
