"...to establish a company founded on excellence and compassion to care for and develop individuals with developmental disabilities by providing a variety of active & enjoyable services in an environment that is conducive to learning, elicits growth, produces individualized opportunities and creates a sense of community."
"...to love, enhance, equip, and inspire lives & families.” Every Life is important, every life tells a story, every story sings a song. Simply stated, our motto is “Let my life song sing for you."
“….to bolster sociability, independence, and a sense of personal worth and importance for all participants enrolled.”
Sacandaga Lake is a beautiful lake west of Saratoga on the southern side of the Adirondacks. It is surrounded by mountains and is just picturesque. Each summer we rent cottages at the Sacandaga Bible Conference Center camp grounds and offer eligible participants the opportunity to enjoy and explore the lake with all it's wildlife and scenery. This is a home away from home and provides our participants opportunities they would not likely find elsewhere.
We have separate weeks of camping for the ladies and the gentlemen. Staff camp in the cottage with the campers and facilitate the weeks meals, activities and chores. Every participant gets a taste of independence in a supported type of living situation while enjoying time with their friends. They cook, they eat, the clean, they talk, they play and they even sleep as they are tuckered out from all the activity. The smell of the fire, the taste of s'mores, the feel of the sand, the touch of the breeze, the sound of the water, and enjoying the company are what camping is all about!
Camping registration begins in January each year as we need to reserve the cottages. Cottages are typically reserved the end of July/early August. Availability is limited and therefore we make every effort to give everyone who is eligible equal opportunity to participate.
Eligibility requirements for participation in the Sacandaga Camping trip for safety reasons are as follows:
- Participants must have attended the Awakenings Day Program for at least 1 year prior to the scheduled week of camping
- Participants must be self-medicating
- Participants must be able to adhere to staff instructions
- Participants must be able to travel independently back and forth from the cottage to the group activities
